This little sweetie is only 7 days old. She was the most cooperative awake newborn I’ve ever photographed. Usually when new babies are awake, they are squirming so much you can’t get a shot in – but Madeline was so “chill” we just kept moving right along even though she was awake most of the shoot.

Many congratulations to Madeline’s family! I hope she stays this “chill” for you all the way through high school : )

This little one was a bit fussy when we started to shoot. Although you’d never know it by the smile on the first photo! Here’s the secret…

Not my secret, but her Mom & Dad’s. A hair dryer. Yes, that’s right, a hair dryer. As I was setting up the first shot, and rubbing her back a little trying to get her relaxed, her Dad looks over at Mom and says, “Should I go get the hair dryer.” The what? I was thinking. He came back, turned on the loud hair dryer, pointed her way, and instantly she stopped fussing and calmed to sleep. Amazing! I don’t know that I’ll be packing a hair dryer in my camera bag… but just thought I should share that little secret for any parents looking to “try anything” : )

Here is a sneak peek for baby Davis & family. He is only 6 days old in these photos, and awfully smiley! I seriously have never seen a newborn smile this much during a photo shoot. A lot of times it was when I, of course, set my camera down to adjust him, but I did get quite a few smiles caught on camera : ) Another favorite part of mine… Davis’s Mom had all sorts of fun props! Cute knit hats, a knit cocoon sac, blankets and booties knit by her grandma… there were all sorts of fun items to choose from when I arrived.

This shot was requested by Mom, so she could always remember how tiny those little toes really were. (As I think he’s going to grow up to be quite a tall boy!)

And I’m guessing this is Dad’s favorite shot… He played football in college, so this one was a request by him.

A quick share for baby Grant and his family. This little guy surprised Mom & Dad by arriving 6 weeks early! He is home now, growing a bunch, and being totally adorable : )

(I really hope my little guy doesn’t decide to arrive early, or he will not have a nursery to sleep in. Seriously. I’m cutting timing close over here with a basement renovation, to free up his future room)

I’m posting a little out of order, but HAD to post this one photo… a PERFECT example of why you want your newborn photographed as young, and sleepy, as possible! This pose is totally impossible without those two factors.

I’m so glad I finally got this pose to work. This is my goal pose with every baby under 1 week : )

A super quick post for little Maggie that I photographed a few hours ago. She wins my best sleepy baby of the year award!! Apparently the secret to a sleepy baby photo shoot is…
doctor in the AM, lunch with friends outside, a shopping trip to Target, then some food = knocked out baby.
I love it!

Welcome baby Paulie! This little cutie is as sweet as can be. At only 6 days old, he tried to stay awake for most of his session, but we got him sleepy after a while. (and I have a feeling he slept the rest of the day after I left). I can tell Mom & Dad are so happy and proud that he is here. Congrats you two! I’m very happy for you : )
