True statement: I am flattered when anyone decides they would like for me to be responsible for capturing their wedding day. We’ve usually only just met and that requires a huge leap of trust. This fact does not escape me.

When people in the art and design world choose me to photograph their wedding day, the pressure is ON! I know that it is self applied pressure and that they never would have chosen me without doing some serious homework and studying quite a bit of my work to make sure it fits their style and vision. But I can still feel the little bit of extra weight from striving to meet my own expectations of myself in this scenario.

Welcome to the wedding of art directors Monica and Dave. This was my first time shooting a wedding ceremony or reception at the Contemporary Art Museum and I loved it! I kind of want to just move in there. I tend to be a big fan of spaces that are simple and clean that couples can really make their own. And they timed it with a great exhibit that blended beautifully with their wedding colors! Side note: I once shot a reception at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City and the current exhibit put what looked like a giant dead-eyed child right behind the head table. Creepy background for happy toasting photos!

This was one of those beautiful days in October – not too hot, not too cold but VERY windy. The wedding party handled it like champs. I love these two – easy to work with and up for anything!

I seriously can’t even handle Monica’s shoes. They are Badgley Mischka jeweled booties and they are to die for. I actually tried to borrow them from her for an upcoming fashion shoot we had right afterwards, but she and Dave were on their honeymoon. So selfish. ;)

Time to meet up with the wedding party for some windy outdoor fun photos!




Wedding days are so busy and crazy that I rarely have time to “play” with an idea or a shot that will take very long to set up or capture. But we took a few extra minutes to work some slow shutter speeds before heading inside. I think it was worth it!





One of new favorite things to do is make the dudes hold the flowers. I don’t know why. I find it entertaining. And really it’s all about me entertaining myself right?!
