To all of the engaged couples out there in the world, I cannot stress this enough. It might rain on your wedding day. I know, you don’t want to hear it and I know you are hoping that it won’t happen to you, but the truth is that it really might. It’s not like a 5% chance. At least in St. Louis it’s more of a 25% chance. In other words, ONE IN FOUR. I’m not here so scare you, but I want you to have plenty of time to start making peace with it. The truth is, rain or shine, at the end of your wedding day you will be married to the love of your life (yay!) As long as that happens then the wedding day can be deemed a success! Now you’re thinking that I’m oversimplifying. What about all of the time planning? All of the money spent?! Yep. I know. And wouldn’t it be even more sad if you spent your whole wedding day, that you spent all of this time and money on, unhappy? It doesn’t matter if your hair and makeup looks perfect if your face says “I’m unhappy.” It doesn’t matter how many fittings you had for you dream wedding gown if your face says “I’m worried it’s getting dirty and wet.” It doesn’t matter how perfect the photo pose if your face says “I’m worried.” You want to know how to beat the rain? CHOOSE HAPPY!!! Happiness is beautiful. Happiness IS the sun on a rainy day. Smile in it, play in it, splash through puddles, embrace it. (Disclaimer: You may want to play under an umbrella and splash wearing wellies. Mere suggestions.) As long as you are happy, your wedding photos will be beautiful and your day will still be perfect. And if you don’t believe me, ask Courtney and Brendan!
Ok I will say that Courtney has that thick, smooth, heavy hair that doesn’t frizz out with the slightest touch of humidity. Not all of us have that kind of luck. Her and Brendan also have the cutest daughter of all time. Meet Ellie!
This perfect little moment…
Checking in on Meredith with Brendan and the guys!
They were all ready to go a little early, so what better way to pass the time than a little Ms. Pac-man?
Oh, and another important thing to do if you see rain in the forecast a week or so out…buy umbrellas for the whole wedding party. Leave the tags on. We will only take off the tags and use them if necessary but it is best to be prepared! Clear, white and black are the only colors you should purchase. If you buy purple umbrellas, then everyone under them will look purple. The light will filter through them to your faces and everyone will look Barney-like. And if you can find golf -size, even better! That way a bridesmaid and a groomsman can fit together under a single umbrella and you don’t need as many.
Off to the church! Beautiful St. Raphael in South City.
We got a little wet all day, but it was totally worth it and we still got great photos. And not a single complaint from the wedding party all day! Thanks guys!
The guys were much better at helping keep the ladies dry than themselves.
Gorgeous bouquets from Bloomin’ Buckets.
She is standing in a puddle and that is a totally believable smile. Now that is how you embrace your rainy wedding day!
Reflections are a fun side-effect of rain.
One last group shot “on” the golf course and in we go! Time to enjoy the dry reception at Westborough Country Club.
Pretty cake from Sarah’s Cake Shop.
Surprise visit from my favorite bird!
When one of you is a Kane, I think your wedding favor is obvious. :)
Late night snack – hot dog cart from Steve’s Hot Dogs on The Hill!
And one more end of the night photo…yes, it is still raining.
You guys were a dream to work with! Not all couples handle wedding day rain like the two of you. Thank you so much for working with me to help make the most of it! Congratulations! With love, Liz and Meredith
