Happy Friday world! I have a rare weekend off and am looking forward to some R&R with the hubby! We will be wondering around the Taste of Soulard tomorrow if anyone would like to join us. And it is supposed to be a beautiful day! Just like this lovely wedding day in October. Which was beautiful in so many ways. Settle in for this one…it is long but totally worth it. :)
I didn’t get to know Jessica and Ben all that well before the wedding day. They live out of town, so we didn’t do an engagement shoot and many of our conversations took place over email and phone. (Notice no Skype. I am terrible at Skype. Which is a weird thing to be bad at but it’s true!) The first time I met Ben in person was seconds before their first look. Basically it went down like “Hi Ben! I’m Liz. You’re stuck with me all day and your beautiful wife to be is right around the corner. Don’t turn around.” But I quickly came to love the way these two interacted together. It’s clear that they are true partners and share a pretty incredible connection complete with inside jokes and mind reading based on a “look.” As photographers it’s fun to be given permission to be on the outside looking in. In normal life if you spent hours staring at someone they would call the cops and you would be arrested for stalking. But when you’ve been given permission, and have a camera in hand, it completely changes the situation. Since it was our first time seeing these two together, it was really fun to capture their dynamic along with special moments with family and friends! I think you’ll see what I mean. :)
Meredith and I agree that we wish we had an absolutely breathtaking Chuppah for all of our dress photos. Our florist friend Tina Barrera knocked it out of the park!
Welcome to one of the most interestingly beautiful pairs of shoes I have seen all year. Maybe ever.Props to Stuart Weitzman and to Jessica for her good taste.
Lovely letterpress stationary from Aerialist Press.
Wowza. Love this cut!
Also fun – bridesmaids all in denim shirts instead of matching robes! Nothing against the robes, I love pretty floral robes. But it was nice to see something different and cute!
Gorgeous. Just gorgeous.
First look with dad.
Meanwhile, Mer was hanging out upstairs with Ben and the guys. Upon meeting Ben I was SO GLAD they decided to have a 2nd photographer and specifically that it was Mer. Ben is one tall drink of water! And for those of you that know me, I’m barely taller than a leprechaun. There are ways to deal with this strange photographic angle, but it is much easier to just have one tall person photograph another tall person. :)
Dapper Ben.
Sweet first look just outside…
And then everyone joined us to enjoy this perfect fall day!
Boys being silly.
Love, love, love everything about these.
When you’re short, you get excited to shoot DOWN instead of looking up all of the time. I love this aerial landscape angle with the soft setting light.
Same shot…Mer’s pretty version.
Love this little nook.
Time for the Ketubah!
The wedding procession is just starting…
Tear.
The ceremony set up was so lovely…I believe it was the first time a ceremony was set up in the round at Westwood Country Club.
So many smiles.
Mazel Tov!
Let’s check out some pretty gorgeous reception decor shall we?!
Straight into the party!
I wish I could remember what was said here that made Ben bite his own hand. But alas, I cannot. I bet it was good though.
Ben you were hilarious. Seriously, I didn’t see it coming. A nice, dry, sarcastic sense of humor is my favorite.
There were so many scrumptious homemade goodies!
I need the story here…I believe that the bride and groom on this cake topper are both looking over each other’s shoulders at smartphones?! Something you’re trying to tell us guys? :)
As if all of the amazing cookies weren’t enough…they even passed ice cream cones, warm cookies with milk shots and mini donuts with caramel sauce!
The dance floor was packed – even grandma was breaking it down!
Such a beautiful day you two! Thank you for letting us share it with you and your families. With love, Liz + Mer
