Before I dive into any wedding day, I ask couples to walk through it with me. I want to know step by step about the people and things that are most important to them so that I can make sure my focus is where they would most appreciate it. As a wedding photographer, I’ve basically trained in the art of observation. But the brain is tricky thing! I’ve found that consciously being on the look out for specific things, or reactions from certain people helps it stay focused. Let’s just say that Monica gave my brain (and Mer’s!) plenty to think about! She is such a thoughtful person and was great about giving Mer and I not only a heads up, but pretty in depth background of the meaning of special gifts, traditions, surprises and more. We felt like we were really part of it all! She and Patrick have already moved to Arizona where Patrick is rejoicing in having more days of scooter weather. Arizona has gained one awesome couple. ;)
Monica’s family is from the Washington, MO area and they wanted to incorporate much of the history there. The girls got ready in Gottfried’s Cabin – the oldest building in historic downtown Washington. And possibly the cutest! I’m taking that earring photo on some cool copper thing I took off of a wall.
Monica is one of 6 siblings and the final one to tie the knot! So her sisters are pros at this point.
Love the light in the cabin. Monica you are lovely!
Mer joined up with Patrick and the guys getting ready at the Old Dutch Hotel and Tavern just down the street. No cookie cutter hotels here folks!
Monica and Patrick started a thing in which they say they love each other more than pizza. Which I totally get because pizza is one of the most awesome creations ever. So this journal Monica gave him was appropriate don’t you think? Not to mention she had been writing in it for EIGHT MONTHS! Patrick’s reaction? And I quote (per Mer), “I won the f**king lottery.” We agree but think Monica is a pretty luck gal too. ;)
Off to St. Mary’s Church in Villa Ridge! Quaint stone chapel.
Monica’s family has plenty of history here. It’s rare that your family name is actually part of a stained glass window.
Here we go!
Love this reaction. Patrick actually gave her a little wave and mouthed “hey” as she was coming down the aisle.
Next surprise! Monica found a guy with a scooter just like Patrick’s so that they could take some photos with it. Patrick’s reaction…
Off to wonder around downtown Washington for a few fun photos!
The reception took place at Jesuit Hall which was really pretty! Check out this cute and unique idea for seating arrangements.
This quilt is another awesome family tradition. Pretty jealous of this one!
Um, rocking chair cake topper complete with little mugs filled with coffee is seriously the sweetest thing ever.
The bus driver hand delivered the marriage license that was left on the bus and saved the day!
Special song from dad.
Party!
And just when you thought all I had left for you was dance party, I present the sibling’s interpretive ballet performance.
Both Patrick and Monica’s parents have been married quite a few years!
These two won the “marriage dance” with 45 years of wedded bliss! (I think – I might be off by a couple of years but I’m close.) Love it!
It was an honor celebrating you two with your amazing families. Thank you for having us! With love, Liz + Mer
